Keep an Audio recorder always handy when practicing to instantly be able to record your original musical ideas. I use my iPhone and it works great for that, but pretty much ALL smartphones include that audio note taking ability.
If you worry you might forget how to play the riff/lick you discovered, video record it too!
Then keep an audio/video log of all your past ideas – you will be revisiting it often as you develop your playing!
