The more time one spends as a self-taught player, the more

difficult it is to follow a disciplined study path afterwards –

since he most often becomes used to Instant Gratification

and has difficulty with both setting and following through

on long term goals and strategies.

Even though self-taught players often manage to

significantly develop their musicality, on the average they

they find it very hard to progress beyond the intermediate stage,

due to lack of long-term planning in their music study.
